HOW WE ARE RUN
Sheffield 50+ has a properly set up constitution and holds an AGM every year in July.
1) Elders Congress
This is the policy arm of 50+ and the working body. The Constitution requires there to be the same number of representatives called Congress Elders as there are Councillors on the City Council, divided in the same manner, 3 to each of the 28 wards. Therefore there are a possible 84 Congress Elders, elected by and from the whole membership. Any member is eligible for nomination and elections take place in June. The Elders meet once a month in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall. Between them during the month they attend meetings relating to older people of planning and consultative bodies of the various partnerships setting up policies affecting older people and then try to sound out the views of members in their areas. In this way the advice we give is as authoritive and representative as possible.
2) The Executive
This consists of 5 Officers elected from and by the Congress Elders at the first Congress meeting after the AGM in July. The positions they fill are Chair, Deputy Chair for Membership, Deputy Chair for Policy, Secretary and Treasurer.
3) Core Team
This consists of 10 officers elected from the general membership by postal ballot. The positions are 4 Officers for Development and one each for Communications, Complaints Fundraising, Information, Monitoring, and Training.
The Executive and the Core Team together form the Management team, which meets on average at least twice a month.
There are always some vacancies for Congress Elders and often for the Core Team too. People can be co-opted if necessary between elections, so if you are a 50+ member and are interested, please get in touch with the office for details. group.
