Sheffield 50+
Giving a voice to older people

Our full title is The Older People's Advisory Group of Better Government for Older People known as Sheffield 50+. This means that, under the umbrella of the Better Government for Older People initiative (BGOP), we are a non-political, independent, voluntary group run by and for Older People in Sheffield.

Sheffield 50+ represents all the citizens of Sheffield who are over 50 years of age - around 158000 in all -   so anyone over 50 who lives or works in Sheffield is eligible to join, irrespective of gender, disability, sexuality or economic, educational, ethnic, cultural, social, political or religious background. The diversity of our membership is one of our great strengths and we   welcome everyone. The more people who register, the better able we are   to carry out our aims and responsibilities effectively, with authority.

We are   now   one of the most advanced municipal organisations for older people in the country. We are fully independent of the City Council and its partnerships but enjoy a unique relationship of mutual cooperation and respect with them. We have the power to influence, at the planning stage, policies for older people at City, Regional and National level.

MEMBERSHIP is FREE and FOR LIFE

and open to anyone over 50 who lives or works within the boundaries of the City of Sheffield but remember that we are a non-political, advisory group not an action group.
